200th Twitter Recommendation Giveaway!

Last week, I recommended my 200th book via my twitter recommendations! That's kind of a crazy number, so I figured I should celebrate. What better way to celebrate than to giveaway a book to my fantastic followers!

Since it's my 200th recommendation, I'm giving away a 2 for 1 book:  The Morganville Vampires, Volume 1. It comes with the first two books in the series: Glass Houses and The Dead Girls' Dance.

Personally, I like this cover even better than the two original covers of the first two books. Plus, with two books in one easy volume, you don't have to worry about getting to the end of book one and not having book two with you (and considering the cliffhanger endings in this series, that's a big relief!).

All you need to do to enter is complete the rafflecopter below. Do any or all of the things below to gain entry. Good luck!

Tempest Audiobook Giveaway

If you've been following the blog or twitter the last few months, you may remember several gushing moments concerning Tempest by Julie Cross. I loved, loved, loved this book! So much so, that I gave away my personal ARC so someone else could read it too. Then, I reviewed it. Then I gushed some more on twitter.

Well, today's the day it's finally released! You should all go pick up a copy. I know I'm buying one too since I gave away my ARC (yes, I do absolutely need to OWN this book!).

Now, I've got another great way to share Tempest with you:  audiobook. Today, with the help of the wonderful MacMillan Audio, I can give away a copy of the Tempest audiobook to one lucky winner! Since this is coming straight from the publisher, only people with US addresses can enter (sorry!).

Not sure if you'd like audiobooks? Preview this clip of Tempest:

The Just-Because Giveaway: Everneath by Brodi Ashton

Once in awhile, when I receive an ARC from a tour, I'm able to keep it. Doesn't happen often, but I've been at the end of a few tours recently where the owner didn't need/want the book back. That's awesome for me, for several reasons. One of them is I get to own a pretty cool book in ARC form. :D

The other day, I was told I get to keep a copy of Everneath by Brodi Ashton (review to come on release day!). Since Everneath isn't out yet, I thought it'd be cool to give it away to a lucky reader who'll get to read it before everyone else.

Soooo...here you go! The Just-Because Giveaway. :)

From GoodReads:

Last spring, Nikki Beckett vanished, sucked into an underworld known as the Everneath, where immortals Feed on the emotions of despairing humans. Now she's returned- to her old life, her family, her friends- before being banished back to the underworld... this time forever.

She has six months before the Everneath comes to claim her, six months for good-byes she can't find the words for, six months to find redemption, if it exists.

Nikki longs to spend these months reconnecting with her boyfriend, Jack, the one person she loves more than anything. But there's a problem: Cole, the smoldering immortal who first enticed her to the Everneath, has followed Nikki to the mortal world. And he'll do whatever it takes to bring her back- this time as his queen.

As Nikki's time grows short and her relationships begin slipping from her grasp, she's forced to make the hardest decision of her life: find a way to cheat fate and remain on the Surface with Jack or return to the Everneath and become Cole's...

Fill out the RaffleCopter below to enter to win one used (and read, many times over) copy of Everneath by Brodi Ashton. It isn't in perfect condition, but it's in pretty good used condition (pages are good, cover has some wear). Since I want to get this to the lucky winner before it's release date (January 24, 2012), this will be a short contest. You have today, tomorrow, & Friday to enter!

Good luck!

EDIT: Congratulations to SaraBara01 for winning! She must have some serious luck on her side, since she was also the winner of the TEMPEST ARC I gave away several months ago. :D

Book Blogger Book Awards

In 2011, there have been some pretty incredible Young Adult books. What better way to celebrate these amazing written works than to create some book awards to recognize them? That's exactly what my friends over at The Book Sisterhood are doing. They are hosting a pretty awesome competition where book bloggers vote on their favorite books of 2011.

Now, you might be asking, why just book bloggers? While I don't know the official reason, I imagine it has something to do with the fact that book bloggers are dedicated to reading and reviewing a large amount of books each year. Who would know best about what YA books deserve recognition than people who read and review books like it's our job? (If you said librarians, you are also correct...especially because it kind of IS their job!)

So, if you're a book blogger, check out the Book Blogger Book Awards and get your votes in. Everyone else, stay tuned for announcements about giveaways for the top book in each category.

500 Follower Giveaway

Wow. I seriously can't believe I got to 500 followers. I remember when I started my twitter, I was overjoyed at getting each and every new follower. Oh, wait. I still am. :D I can't say how excited I am to see how much my twitter and blog has grown.

So, I want to thank you all so much for following! For 500 followers, I'm giving away 5 Prize Packs. That's right, five! You'll have five days to enter and all you need to do is be a twitter follower and make a comment telling me your 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, & 5th choice Prize Packs. That's it! Easy, huh?

(You can gain extra entries by tweeting the contest or becoming a blog follower.)

Now, onto the Prize Packs! You know I'm a huge fan of fantasy and a huge fan of series. What better way to show my love than to start you off with the first book or two (or three) from some great fantasy series?

Here they are:

Prize Pack #1 CurseWorkers

I'm a huge fan of Holly Black and Curse Workers is my favorite series of hers. Can't wait for Black Heart to come out! Both books are new hardcovers.

Prize Pack #2: Wings

I've heard such great things about this series, but unfortunately, I haven't read them yet (*shock*). They are definitely on my reading pile, but I'm going to have to buy another copy because I've giving these away to you. Wings and Spells are both new hardcovers.

Prize Pack #3:  Need

This is another series I have not yet read, though it's on my list. Need and Captivate are in paperback, while Entice is hardcover (sorry for the discrepancy, but that's what I've got!). All are new.

Prize Pack #4: The New Kid

This is one of those series that I picked up because the cover was cool and the story looked interesting. I haven't gotten around to reading it yet, but every time I see that cover I think, "Ooo, I need to make time to read that soon!" All are paperback, new.

Prize Pack #5:  Fantasy Starter Pack

This is a great prize pack if you haven't read some of the most awesome fantasy/paranormal (with some romance) books out there. Paranormalcy and Firelight are personal favorites of mine. I haven't read Rampant yet, but come on, killer unicorns sounds kind of awesome. All three books are hardcover. Paranormalcy and Rampant are new, while Firelight was read once (still in very good condition).

And there you have it! I hope you are all able to find a Prize Pack that excites you as much as these books and all my wonderful followers excite me. :D

Thankful for...Harry Potter

Beth Revis is currently doing a really awesome giveaway on her blog where she is telling everyone the books she is thankful for and giving away the most amazing book bundle ever. Check out her giveaway here.

I usually don't repost giveaway stuff on the blog, but I really wanted to blog about this one because it's not just a giveaway. It's about sharing what you're thankful for. I am immensely grateful for books in my life. For me, they are a source of strength and a way for me to manage stress. I can always tell when I'm getting overwhelmed in my life because my reading picks up to hyperspeed. That's when I know I need to reevaluate what's going on and see if I can make some changes (not that I don't like reading tons, but there's a limit to how much is healthy for me).

Also, reading led me to writing which is another outlet. I'm not a naturally creative person, so finding a creative activity I can engage in on my own without embarrassing myself is very helpful. I've come to love working on my craft and creating my own stories. Again, another stress reliever, but also just an activity I enjoy.

Clearly, being a book blogger and twitter person, I love books. I read tons, but that honestly wasn't always the case. I enjoyed reading when I was younger, but along the way, I fell out of habit. Around the time of adolescence, I couldn't find books I liked anymore. I wasn't really ready for adult books (though I tried a few) and all the other books I found had been too young for me. Oh, YA. Why weren't you as prominent then as you are now?

I didn't get back into reading again until...

Harry Potter

The Harry Potter series is magical in many ways and to many people, but for me, it truly changed my life. I know that sounds a little drastic, but before Harry Potter, I basically was only reading for school. Even then, I wasn't finishing every book assigned.

I read Harry Potter as part of an English assignment and it completely changed my world. I fell in love with the story, the characters, the world, and with reading. It's embarrassing to admit how many times I've read each book. I stopped counting when I reached 12 times for each book (and that was before the sixth book came out and I've reread the entire series several times since then, as well as picked up individual books from time to time). At any point in time, I'm always in the middle of a Harry Potter book. I keep one by my bed to read to help me sleep.

Since then, I started reading other YA books. Obviously, I read a lot now. I read a few books a week, maintain a book blog, maintain an active recommendation twitter, and have written a novel (though there's lots of editing to be done). I'm entertaining the idea of submitting my manuscript for publication at some point (if I can ever be satisfied with it).

All because I picked up a book about a boy wizard.

I am so grateful for reading and what literature has brought back to my life. None of what's happened would have been possible if my spark for reading hadn't been rekindled.

So....I raise my glass to Harry Potter. The boy who lived and taught me how to live through books again.

Giveaway!

My blog followers have been steadily growing since I actually started posting (instead of just recounting twitter info). To show my appreciation for my wonderful followers, I'm doing a giveaway of two of my favorite books I've read this year:

That's right. A copy of Invincible Summer by Hannah Moskowitz or Wither by Lauren DeStefano could be yours.

How do you enter? Simple. If you're not already a blog follower, become one. Then, just add a post to this comment mentioning which book you'd like to win (you can say both). You have until September 30 at 11:59pm to enter. On October 1, I'll use a random number generator to pick the two winners.

Oops & Good Stuff

Well, the post I was supposed to have up this Wednesday needed some last minute meddling...and then I forgot to change it from "draft" to "scheduled." :( Sooo, you're getting nothing today, but giveaway news.

Wait.

Giveaway news?

That's good stuff, right?

You bet it is!

I just stopped at a Border's that's closing in 5 days and picked up a bunch of YA books for my follower giveaways. I'll be giving away a book when I reach 400 twitter followers (@YA_BookOfTheDay) and you'll get more than one chance to win if you follow the blog. (I'm hoping to get to 50 followers soon.)

Stay tuned for more details. :D

300 Follower Giveaway

It's time for another book giveaway! I promised to give away two books when I reach 300 followers and I've finally chosen the two.  Here are the winners:

1.) WAKE by Lisa McMann (paperback)

WAKE was a previous book giveaway, but the recipient never contacted me with her info, so it's time to try to giveaway this sucker again. It's a great book, so I hope you're excited about it.

THE DUFF was the first YA Book of the Day, for good reason. It's an excellent book.

Both books are previous YA Books of the Day, so you know they're good. ;) I'm sure you're all wondering, how do I enter to win these books made of awesome? Well, here you go:

- Follow me on twitter:  www.twitter.com/ya_bookoftheday
- Make this tweet:  "You should follow @YA_BookoftheDay because..." and fill in your own reasons for following me, or why you think others should. You can change around the wording if you need to, but make sure @YA_BookoftheDay is included and a reason you like or think others should follow.

And that's it! Easy, right?

When I reach 300 followers, I'll use a random number generator to pick the two winners and send out the books.
